Board of Adjustments recently unanimously voted to allow Cedar Falls Parks Department to build a floodable, enclosed, at grade structure. This was due in a large part by the results of a hydrological study that was completed. The study stated that the original building, elevated or new structure would not have any effect on the river flow in times of high water because of the location of the bridge. How ironic that the bridge that once threatened (1987) the existence of the Island Park Beach House is now the reason it can be rebuilt!

Another victory for the citizens of Cedar Falls! Time to figure out a design, roll up our sleeves and get to work!

Sturgis Falls is getting close and so is the next Island Park Beach House party! Following the annual Sturgis Falls Parade step into the Hub to hear the national act Dash Rip Rock and Boss Grant and the Johnny Cash Revue. Here is a little about Dash.

Dash Rip Rock is one of the most exciting, entertaining and energetic bands touring the world these days. They have been in business since 1984 and show no sign of slowing down. In their checkered history, Dash has shared the stage with Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, The Cramps, David Alan Coe, The Ramones, Lou Reed, No Doubt and Los Lobos, among others. They have released 14 CDs and tour consistently in the US and Europe.
In 2008, Dash released “Country Girlfriend.” Produced by Tom Drummond of Better Than Ezra – the new CD featured fresh songwriting and typical hard-driving bayou rock. It was popular on Sirius XM's Outlaw country station - receiving heavy airplay. Their next CD is titled "Call of the Wild" and will be released in August 2010 on Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label. DRR appreciates their legendary reputation as a reliably wild and cutting edge rock band. Every one of their live shows is high energy and fun. Like their heroes, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis, Dash is proud of their infamous wild man history and have slowly evolved into a serious southern rock powerhouse. Just go see them live and you'll understand. They are truly one of the greatest roots rock bands touring today.
Press
"Dash is nearing their 25th anniversary as every bit the fire-breathing, fun-loving sons of the swamp they always have been. "
Houston Press
"Dash Rip Rock is the kind of band that provides a lesson in American rock-and-roll history wrapped up in a party package. Skillful musicians with a penchant for getting reliably wild, the group mixes up rockabilly, blues and country stomp for a guaranteed good time" "
New York Times

Come check them out at the Firefighter's Dance too on Friday Night at Gateway Park!
